Functional goods are concepts which has came up with in recent years. It means the product is for multi-purpose. The most widespread
functional goods are in food and cosmetic sectors. Functional foods are the components of nutrients which provides extra benefits on human
physiology and metabolic functions beyond meeting the demand of essential nutrients for human body. Although the concept of functional
foods are new, its application is based on very old. Herby cheese, molasses, chestnut honey, orchids, rose hip, centaury oil, nigella oil, hibiscus
(mallow), portulaca and knotweed are some of them. With learning side effects of drugs and increasing of health problems the tendency to the
functional foods also increased and products diversified. It is gradually transformed into a sectoral structure and product value is several times
the normal food. In this study, some of the local functional goods in recent years are desribed according to our observations and literatures. A
general evaluation with some criticisms and suggestions was made in this paper.
