Özet

This study investigates relationships between level of knowledge, qualifications and self-perceptions of biology teachers in the area of
biodiversity and conservation strategies with the variables gender, professional experience, school type, average number of students and faculty
graduated. Interwiew method was used for data collection, Chi-square analyses were carried out for statistical significance of relationships between
variables. The research was carried out with the participation of 37 biology teachers working within Ankara province. A web-based resource
teaching material was developed by the researchers aiming at increasing the level of knowledge of the teachers in the project. Related literature in
the field and expert opinion were taken during the preparation of the material. Participating teachers commented on the material, providing their
opinion for their qualifications in biodiversity and other recommendations for teaching biodiversity. A statistically significant relationship was
found between the teachers’ self-sufficiency perception and level of knowledge in the field of biodiversity education. 73 Per cent of the teachers
thought their level of knowledge in the field of biodiversity was satisfactory; while 59.5% found themselves qualified in biodiversity education. 40.5
Per cent of the teachers were of the opinion that applied teaching was necessary for teaching topics in biodiversity.
