Modern Yaşamın Hastalığı: Depresyon ve Mersin Bölgesinde Bitkisel Antidepresant Kullanımı

Abstract

Depression, defined as disorders of mood in theworld, is one of themostcommondisorders in our age. Eventhoughthisdiseasearerelativelyrelatedto gene pool, brainfunctionsoranotherclinicalfactors, manyresearchesreportedthatenvironmentalagentsaremajorcause of depression.Thesemayincludecasessuch as prolongedstress at business life orhomeenvironments, ortraumaticevents in society. Especially, water, airandnoisepollution, foodcontamination, fastlifestyleinducestress. Therefore, thenumber of peopleusedsyntheticantidepressantdrugsis increasingdaybyday in thecrowdedcities. However, because of sideeffects of syntheticantidepressants, herbalmedicinesaremorepreferredduetotheirwideapplicabilityandtherapeuticefficacycoupledwithlowsideeffects. Inthisstudy, weresearchedthatwhichplantsaremostlyused as antidepressants in Mersin region. Wereportedthattheusing of  antidepressantplantsareHypericumperforatum 10.27% Glycyrrhizaglabra15.6%; Anthemisspp.20.6%; Valerianaoficinalis 2.76%; Melisa officinalis11.3%; Ginkobiloba 18%; Panax ginseng 2.76% andtheothers 18.71%. The 28.52% of thenumber of patients in Mersin useantidepressantandthe rate of thoseare62.9% adult, 29.7% elderyand 7.4% child. Alsothispatientsareusing 29.62% vitamin and 22% dietfrompharmacy. Theresults of ourstudyprovidedpreliminaryknowledgeaboutlocaluse of herbalantidepressants.
