In this study it investigated that antibiotic and heavy metal resistance of Gram(-) bacteria from Iskenderun Bay fish’s gills and intestinal content.
Bacteria isolated from gill showed high resistance to ampicillin (66.7%) and cefazolin (47.3%) whereas, no isolates showed resistance to imipenem and
cefrizoxime. The intestinal bacteria showed the most resistance agains to ampicillin (44%) and cefazolin (36.0%) respectively. A proportion of resistance
to chloramphenicol (1.3%) and kanamycin (4.0%) was shown among the intestinal bacteria. These results showed that Iskenderun Bay fish have significant
proportion of Gram (-) bacteria with antibiotic and heavy metal resistance and this prompting a health risk to public health for fish consumers.
