Rhaponticoides mykalea (Hub.-Mor.) M. V. Agab. & Greuter is one of the narrow endemics of Turkey known only from Samsun Dağ,Yatağan and Isparta. This species had been described on a specimen which were collected from Samsun Mountain. Its type locality is under heavy anthropogenic threat because it is situated in one of the most intensive turistical and urbanization area. In this study, the type locality and KuşadasıDavutlar area were investigated and number of individuals in the area had been recorded. The data from 2 years preliminary observation clearly shows that distribution of the species is highly limited by urbanization, agricultural activities and consumption as a food. The field observations and population studies between 2008 and 2009 also show that less than 500 individuals (288-338) were resisting against to severe environmental pressure. Despite of a clear need to have further studies, according to present data R mykalea should be considered as a real “critically endangered” species hardly surviving under triple threats in few non - inhabitated places, road sides and small maquis islands which are not useful for agriculture.
