Abstract

In this study, Varian ICP-OES is used to determine the cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and iron (Fe) concentrations in packed and unpacked dried fruit samples (grape, hazelnut, chickpeas, nut and pip) sold in the vicinity of Kayseri province. It is observed that the dried fruit sold in Kayseri province are in high quality, but not totally free of heavy metals. It is noted that the highest heavy metal concentrations in the studied dried fruit samples are found in the samples sold unpacked, especially in the ones which are sold where the traffi c is dense. It has been observed that the heavy metal concentrations in dried fruit samples ranged between 0,09 and 0,45 μg/g for Cd, 2,91 and 25,3 μg/g for Zn, 0,32 and 7,11 μg/g for Pb, 0,26 and 8,33 μg/g for Ni and 5,03 and 68,15 μg/g for Fe.Taking these results into consideration, it is concluded that, except for some samples sold unpacked in the city centre, the heavy metal concentrations of the studied samples are within the permissible limits.
