Anahtar Kelimeler:
Thymus, essential oil, antimicrobial activity.Özet
In this work, Thymus sipyleus subsp. rosulans wildly distributed in Turkey was screened for its antimicrobial activity. Following the crude extraction from
aerial parts of Thymus sipyleus subsp. rosulans with fi ve different organic solvents and the essential oils were tested for its antimicrobial activity. For the
essential oils, 39 compounds were identifi ed representing over the 98.7 % of the essential oil. The major constituents of the oil were determined as carvacrol
(35.327%), cymene (19.920%), thymol (13.220%) and terpinene (8.003%). The extracts of Thymus sipyleus subsp. rosulans exerted activity on bacterial
strains and Candida albicans. Essential oil’s disc diffusion and MIC values were determined for some selected standard test strains.
