This study was carried out to determine some biological parameters of carp populations introduced to the Karasu (Mermit) Stream in Lake Van Basin and
conducted between March 2007 and April 2008. Sampling was made by hand nets and electroshock and 297 specimens were caught. The length, weight, sex
and gonad weights of the samples were determined. The fork lengths were measured between 10.4-44.3 cm; and weights were found between 26.2-1977.6
g. Dominant length and weight group were 24.0-25.9 cm-group and 200-300 g-group, respectively. Condition factor was calculated as 2.122±0.09, lengthweight relationship was estimated as W=0.0247xL2.952 . Male:female ratio was determined as 1:1.29. Sexual maturity was found as 18 cm in males and 31 cm
in females. It was observed that amateur fishing could be a big threat for the future of the Karasu Stream population because of undersized catch.
