Uluabat Lake is 35 km away from Bursa and located in the west of province. There is a lot of villages and towns near the lake. In addition increasing pollution by this villages’ usage and irrigation waste water and discharging into the lake industrial and domestic waste which is carried by rivers and creek, during the summer and spring months with increasing in temperatures and light in the shallow and slow stream parts excessive algae blooms appears.In July of 2009 two species of blue-green algae (Cyanobacteria, Cyanophyceae) was identified which are responsible for excessive algae blooms. They are called M. aeruginosa (Kützing) Kützing and M. wesenbergii (Komárek) Komárek and belong to Microcystis genus. That have been found in the coastal village of Gölyazı species formed toxin Microcystin is among the most toxic algal toxins. It’s occurrence of aquatic life limits many lives also it is poisonous for humans and essential to make public conscious.
