B. oleracea L. is like other Brassica species a well known species. It forms wit the other species B. rapa, B. nigra, B.
juncea, B. carinata and B. napus the Triangle of U. Genotypes developed from the genus Brassica evolved worldwide to the
most important oil crops due the developments in breeding and agronomical practice. Because of intensive breeding work
beginning from the 1970’ s genetic variation in rapeseed (B. napus L.) this crop plant gets limited. In plant breeding if the
targeted variation is not present species inside related forms and species come into use. Up to know, developed interspecific
rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) forms were characterized using morphological and molecular methods and it was determined
that these forms are representing a new gene pool. Specially, with studies dealing with low erucic acid content low erucic
acid mutants could be obtained in the species B. rapa (AA), B. napus (AACC) ve Brassica juncea (AABB). LOw erucic acid
mutants were found in B. oleracea at the beginning of 1970’s. As in similar studies, interspecific rapeseed (B. napus L.)
hybrids were develped. develped using these material. İn this study the issue increasing genetic variation in rapeseed (B.
napus L.) using biotechnological methods was discussed.
