Wastewater, which is used in agriculture in order to provide growing water demand, might be included heavy metal and trace
elements. Lead is one of the most hazardous heavy metals, and it causes an extensive pollution in the environment, and also it has adverse
effect on the growing of plants.This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of humic acid addition on lettuce (Lactuca sativa)
morphological and pysiological parameters. Lettuce plants were growth in controlled glasshouse for 20 days. Humic acid was applied in
four different levels 0, 3, 6, 9 lt / da. At the 30 days stage the lettuce seedlings were subject to three different Pb doses 0, 150, 300 ppm.
Thirty days after the Pb stress treatment young plants were harvested and the shoot fresh and dry weight, root fresh and dry weight, shoot and
root length, and leaf areas, MDA, süperoksit dismutaz (SOD) ve glutatyon redüktaz (GR) were determined. It was found that humic acid
application reduced Pb stress effects. On the other hands these results indicate that lettuce respond to salt induced oxidative stress by
enzymatic defense systems humic acid applications, the lead part in reducing the negative effects of stress had a positive effect.
