Turkey is one of the risky countries in regard to the effects of the global climatic change. Drought and high temperature may affect tree
resistance and bark beetle populations while affecting the ecosystem functions and stand structure. An increase of 1 °C mean temperature and the
increased damage of bark beetles during the last 50 years support this thought. Temperature increase causes to the extended summers, extended
damage periods by insects, increased reproduction, to appearing of more hostile haplotypes, migrations to higher elevations and adversely affecting
the resin production which is one of the most important defense mechanisms in trees while exposing trees to water stress. Water deficiency
(requirement) of trees is one of the causes to trigger the bark beetle outbreaks and these beetles are believed to be a messenger of the global climatic
change. In this study, the outbreak dynamics of bark beetles, direct and indirect effects of temperature and drought on beetle performance (attraction of
water stres for wood borers, effects of prolonged drought on bark bettles) were discussed with regard to literature and current knowledge.
